Grand jury indicts 4 in Ohio slave labor case
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Four people have been charged with enslaving a mentally disabled Ohio woman and her daughter, beating the woman, denying her food, sexually assaulting her and threatening her with dogs and snakes.
The charges unveiled Tuesday also allege the four forced the woman and her child to sleep in unsafe conditions in a house in Ashland, restricted access to a bathroom and forced the woman to eat dog food and crawl on the floor wearing a dog collar.
Jodie Callahan, Jessica Hunt and Dezerah Silsby were indicted on five counts including forced labor. Daniel Brown was charged in a criminal information of the sort that typically precedes a plea deal.
Callahan’s mother, Becky Callahan, has said the allegations against the defendants are “all lies.”
