ERIE, Pa. (AP) – Jurors will resume deliberations Wednesday in the case of a man charged in the stabbing death of a woman who lived in the same northwestern Pennsylvania apartment building where he resided.

The Erie Times-News said the Erie County panel began considering the case Tuesday afternoon but had reached no verdict by day’s end.

Thirty-three-year-old James Duncan of Erie could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder in the June 2011 death of 27-year-old Nikkia Sawyer.

Authorities say she was stabbed 60 times and left bound and gagged on her bed. Defense attorney Nicole Sloane says two relatives staying with Duncan saw no signs of a violent attack.

WSEE says prosecutors in closing arguments Tuesday cited DNA evidence, but the defense said other DNA samples were never analyzed.
