Man accused of hitting woman with lumber
A Canton Township man was taken into custody Tuesday night after he allegedly hit a woman with a piece of lumber, breaking her arm.
Vaughn Deon Dubielak, 39, of 1520 Jefferson Ave., Lot 15, is accused of hitting Tammy Sue McMasters after she apparently raised her arm to protect herself from getting hit in the head.
State police were called about 8:20 p.m. to the mobile home park at 1520 Jefferson for a report of a fight.
McMasters, 44, who was interviewed by state police at Washington Hospital, where she was taken for treatment, told a trooper that Dubielak came out of his house with the piece of lumber. She told police that he immediately started yelling and trying to cause a fight.
Dubielak reportedly swung the board at her head. McMasters put up her left arm in front of her face to block the strike. He then hit her twice with the board, police said. State police indicated in court documents that McMasters will likely have to undergo surgery on her arm.
As she ran to a neighbor’s house, McMasters’ friends and family stepped in to subdue Dubielak.
Dubielak then took the board and hit the windshield of a pickup truck owned by Billy Ray Cox, who then confronted him. As he tried to run from the scene, Dubielak reportedly grabbed the arm of one woman and threw her to the ground. He also knocked a girl to the ground, police said.
Another woman punched Dubielak in order to stop him from assaulting family members, police said.
Dubielak was found unconscious in the woods along Chartiers Creek. Police said he was extremely intoxicated and could not stand on his own. He was taken to Washington Hospital to be checked before being placed in Washington County jail on a probation detainer.
He was arraigned by video Wednesday afternoon before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness. Mark set bond at $50,000. A preliminary hearing is set for July 25 before Mark.
