Humane Society announces pool party for dogs Aug. 18
GREENSBORO – All dogs and their owners are invited to attend one of the social events of the season as the Humane Society of Greene County holds its annual Dog Gone Pool Party.
From 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 dogs will have the chance to take an end-of-the season dip and show off some of their doggie swim skills at the Mon View Park Pool in Greensboro.
Dog owners are asked only to make a donation to the humane society for admission. Owners are permitted to swim with their dogs if they choose.
The humane society has held the event since 2006 to help raise money for its shelter.
“Last year, we had about 40 dogs,” said Amy Gyurke, party coordinator. “It varies with the weather but we usually have at least 40 to 50 dogs. We have always done well.”
Money raised helps the society purchase items for the shelter including food, medicine and medical supplies and helps cover the costs to spay and neuter animals.
Canines must arrive on a leash and have proof of vaccinations. Children who attend must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
An award ceremony also will be part of the party and will include the awarding of prizes for “Best Swimsuit” and “Best in Pool.”
The event provides dogs the opportunity to use the pool before it officially closes for the season. Gyurke thanked the county commissioners and county Department of Recreation for the use of the park pool.
“There are not a lot of events around here like this and it’s nice that people come together to help out the shelter,” Gyurke said. “Even for people who don’t have a dog, it’s a fun and lively event to watch.”
Representatives from the humane society will be on hand to supervise the festivities.
