Sixth grader Braden Tennant tried his balance out on the mechanical bull ride, a new treat this year at the Jacktown Fair. His time aboard was 28 seconds, not enough to break the day’s record of 33 seconds.

Caitlyn McConn, 16, of West Alexander, left, and Heather Huggins of Willow Tree Farm, Greensboro, were the big winners in Jacktown Fair’s first annual Pig Out Contest. McConn managed to eat seven hot dogs, complete with buns, in seven minutes then chug a 24-ounce Sprite as a tie breaker. Huggins ate 15 hard boiled eggs in 3 minutes and 28 seconds.
