CARMICHAELS – A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Boardman, Ohio, man who allegedly threatened several people with a handgun following a fight July 4 at Boondocks Bar in Cumberland Township.

James Edward Cox, 24, of 79 Indianola Road, was charged Wednesday by Cumberland Township police with six counts each of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering and harassment and one count each of disorderly conduct, possessing an instrument of crime and carrying a firearm without a license.

According to the criminal complaint, Cox became involved in a fight with Jeremy Studdard about 12:17 a.m. over a woman both men had spoken to.

Police said Richard Cox was attempting to break up the fight when two of Studdard’s friends, Jeffery Alexander and Richard McCarter, became involved in the dispute.

The two groups of men were separated but continued to exchange words, the complaint said. At some point, James Cox went to his car and returned with a 9mm Glock pistol. He pointed the gun at several people, including Studdard, and threatened to kill them before leaving the bar, police said.

Police said they later learned James Cox did not have a valid license to carry a firearm in Ohio or Pennsylvania. Police said they spoke to James Cox on the telephone and Cox told them he did not recall the incident and “everything went black” after the intial confrontation.
