Fire crews responded to a report of smoke at Ringgold Middle School in Finleyville Wednesday afternoon.

Finleyville assistant fire Chief David Kegel said a small fire was ignited when a stage light in the auditorium was placed too close to a set of curtains.

Engines from Finleyville, Elrama and Library responded, along with Bentleyville’s Rapid Intervention Team. Kegel said maintanence personnel were the only people in the building at the time, and those workers were able to mostly put out the fire with extinguishers before emergency crews arrived. Firefighters ventilated the auditorium to remove smoke.

Kegel said the fire caused little or no damage.
