Charleroi Area H.S. to hold commencement ceremonies

Ian Whiten, valedictorian

Charleroi Area High School will graduate 122 seniors during its commencement at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the high school ampitheater.

Speakers will be Ian Whiten, valedictorian, who will discuss the future, followed by Annalisa Perumal, salutatorian, who will discuss the present, and Brandi Duvuvei, class president, discussing the past.

Whiten is a son of Robert and Janice Whiten of Charleroi. He will study mechanical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

He is a member of the highest honor roll, was an Outstanding Young Citizen gold medal winner 2012-13, Challenge Program Academic Award winner, Challenge Program Community Service Award winner and was a United States Achievement Academy All-American Scholar.

Whiten also was an officeholder in the National Honor Society, physics club, Spanish club, drafting club and calculus club.

He was a volunteer firefighter, logistics chairman for the Relay for Life committee and was Charleroi Junior Mayor. He received the Best Buy and the John and Sophie Choratch scholarships.

Perumal is a daughter of Robbie and Camille Perumal of Speers. She will study forensic science at Seton Hill University.

She is was named to the highest honor roll, was a Charthene Girl and received the perfect attendance award.

She is a member of the symphonic, jazz and marching bands and the chemistry club.
