Carmichaels grads win scholarships
CARMICHAELS – Three Carmichaels Area School District graduates are the recipients of three scholarships.
Charlyne Adams and Floretta Chambers were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Paul and Dolores Jazwa Lavins Scholarship Fund.
Each year, the fund awards two $5,000 scholarships, renewable each year for four years, to two deserving Carmichaels seniors. This is the 14th year this scholarship has been given at Carmichaels.
Hillary Pratt was the recipient of the Michael E. Holupka Jr. and Kathleen Marinoff Gift Fund, which awards a $1,000 scholarship each year for no longer than five years to a deserving Carmichaels senior. This fund has been an active part of Carmichaels’ graduation for the past 15 years.
Adams is the daughter of Scott Adams of Jefferson and Kimberly Brewer of Waynesburg. She plans to attend St. Vincent College and major in English, and then plans to attend law school.
Chambers is the daughter of Barry and Stephanie Chambers of Carmichaels. She plans to attend Duquesne University and major in early childhood education and pre-law.
Pratt is the daughter of Kimberly Simon-Pratt and Kevin Pratt, both of Carmichaels. She plans to attend Washington & Jefferson College and major in biology.
The criteria for both scholarship selections include need, grades, co-curricular participation, contributions to the school and a positive attitude toward the need for a college education.
