Health care discussion scheduled
WAYNESBURG – Southwest Regional Medical Center will hold public discussions Wednesday and June 13 about the Affordable Care Act and how it is impacting hospital operations around the region and beyond.
Southwest Regional Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer Cindy Cowie will explain why so many local hospitals are cutting back services, changing the way care is provided and even laying off staff.
“These changes are real, and we feel that the community has a right to understand where things stand with the many changes in health care,” explained Cowie. “I get many questions, and I want to provide the opportunity to address these questions in a more structured format so we can work together to ensure hospital care for our community now and for the future.”
Anyone from the community is welcome to attend either session planned. The first session will be at 6 p.m. June 12 and the second at noon June 13. Both events will be held in the second floor Guesman Room. Refreshments and light snacks will be served.
Topics of discussion will include the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, value-based purchasing, readmission, inpatient observation and outpatient admission.
