Pomona Grange meeting Saturday
Greene County Pomona Grange will meet at 3 p.m. Saturday at Carmichaels Grange at the corner of Ceylon Road and Route 21, Carmichaels.
There will be a lecturer’s program at 4:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Greene County outreach VISTA volunteer Kyle Kooyers of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will talk about what he and the Greene County Food Security Partnership have done in the past two years to make sure everyone, including the homeless, has access to food resources and what new programs he helped create to promote self-sustainability, including healthy eating.
Kooyers will also explain the federal program VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and offer up samples of one of the tasty recipes he created using only food pantry resources.
There will be a “Have You Met” article about Kooyers and the good work he’s done as a VISTA volunteer in the summer edition of Greene County Living, which will be included in the June 12 edition of the Observer Reporter.
There will be a memorial service by Harveys Aleppo Grange to remember those grangers lost in the past year. A covered-dish dinner will follow the lecturer’s program.
