City begins street sweeping July 1

1 min read

Monthly street sweeping throughout Washington begins July 1.

Downtown streets will be swept between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Neighborhoods will be done from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a schedule that will target one side of a street at a time. Notices will not be placed on vehicles.

Even-numbered side months are March, May, July, September and November. Odd-numbered side of the street months are June, August, October and December.

The schedule is:

Washington Business District – first and third Monday; 6th Ward – second Monday; 7th Ward – second Tuesday; 3rd and 5th wards – second Wednesday; West End – second Thursday; and Tylerdale – second Friday.

When a holiday occurs, the business district will be completed the following day. If the holiday occurs during a day scheduled for a neighborhood, the affected ward will be completed the following week.

The schedule was announced by Councilman Matt Staniszewski, director of public works, as part of the city taking delivery of a used street sweeper.

Previously, the city would rent a unit at a cost of about $6,500 for one month to sweep the streets after the winter season.

Copies of the schedule are available at City Hall.
