“Hard-to-Recycle” to collect Tough Materials

1 min read

The Pennsylvania Resources Council will host a “hard-to-recycle” collection event today, providing an opportunity for individuals to drop off polystyrene packaging materials for recycling as well as electronics. Polystyrene, in its solid form, is a colorless and rigid plastic used to protect consumer electronic and household appliances during shipping.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Steel City Motorcycle at 1375 Washington Road, South Strabane Township. People can also dispose of “e-waste” including computers, printers, monitors, fax machines, laptops, televisions, cell phones, and printer and toner cartridges at no cost.

“This year, PRC is excited to partner with NOVA Chemicals and Appliance Warehouse to collect polystyrene packaging material,” PRC Regional Director Dave Mazza said. “The polystyrene material collected at our events will be recycled and made into a variety of products, including clothes hangers, insulation, decorative moldings and picture frames.”

Most items will be collected for free, but there is a nominal fee to drop off batteries, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and paper for shredding.
