Marcellus driller to test for gas in New Eagle

1 min read

NEW EAGLE – A Marcellus Shale exploration company is planning to test for natural gas deposits in New Eagle.

EQT approached New Eagle council Monday asking for permission to conduct seismic testing on borough property and streets to investigate the presence of natural gas in deep rock formations, borough solicitor Tim Berggren said.

The Pittsburgh company also indicated it would be approaching local property owners about placing test probes in the ground, a request residents have a right to reject, Berggren said.

He said EQT does not plan to create any drilling sites in New Eagle.

The borough does not have any ordinances covering seismic testing. Council asked Berggren to research the request and advise its members on how to respond to EQT.
