Peculiar in polyester
We’re hoping that this image from the Observer-Reporter’s photo archive will be less of a challenge to our readers than last week’s Mystery Photo, which showed a group of men at the Greene County Airport, none of whom was positively identified.
Our only clue is that the photo is believed to have been taken by one of the staff at the newspaper’s Canonsburg office, which closed in the early 1970s.
The five W’s – who, what, when, where and why – are missing, and we hope some of our readers can supply us with the information.
It’s possible that this photo appeared in the newspaper, but without a date, there’s nowhere to begin a search. The women might be posing with items to be sold at a garage sale, but it’s not likely that something so ordinary would be considered news. The children are holding puppies. Were they pets or items for sale, as well?
The car in the garage is a Cadillac, and the Pennsylvania registration plate is of the vintage with the Liberty Bell in the center and “Bicentennial State” at the bottom.
If you can identify the people, where they were or what they were doing, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call him and leave a message with your phone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400. With a little luck, we’ll be able to solve this mystery and publish our findings next Monday.
