Community Foundation awards Doman scholarship
CARMICHAELS – Morgan Berardi, a 2013 Carmichaels Area Junior/Senior High School graduate, was recently awarded the Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship through the Community Foundation of Greene County. Berardi, the daughter of Hugo and Melodie Berardi of Carmichaels, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship at the school’s award program.
Rocky Doman’s parents, Bob and Patti Doman, were on hand to present the award. Berardi is the first female recipient of the award.
Berardi played basketball and softball for Carmichaels High School. During her basketball career, she twice broke the single season assist record – once in the 2011-12 season with 174 assists in 23 games, and again in the 2012-13 season with 178 assists in 23 games. She also became the all-time career assists leader with 574 assists in December 2012. Berardi scored her 1,000th point in December 2012 and became the school’s second all-time leading point leader with 1,260 points in January 2013.
According to the Carmichaels girls basketball coach Jim Lane, Berardi always cared about the team’s success over her personal achievements. She was always seen at practice helping younger players with their jump shots or ball handling.
Berardi plans to attend Penn State University – Fayette campus to major in nursing.
The Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship Fund was created at the Community Foundation of Greene County by his parents, Bob and Patti, and his fiancé Tiffany Grim following his death in 2008.
Doman, a 2000 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School, was an outstanding high school football player who won numerous awards and accolades. He was one of only four Greene County players to rush for 4,000 yards. The scholarship is open to a senior male or female student from Greene County who is planning to pursue a degree at a two- or four-year institution of higher education, is a standout athlete, and demonstrates the qualities of a team player with a humble spirit.
The Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship is made possible through the contributions of many individuals, businesses and corporations who participated in the Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing.
The Community Foundation of Greene County, a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2000, is the central philanthropic vehicle in Greene County for donations of various types and sizes. CFGC currently manages $2.7 million in assets through 50 permanent endowed and restricted funds.
