Good Samaritan has car stolen

2 min read

A Burgettstown man probably thought he was doing a good deed early Sunday after allowing an intoxicated woman to sleep it off on his couch after finding her staggering along a road.

Instead, the not-so-grateful woman stole David Neal’s blue, 2004 Chevrolet Impala. As of Wednesday afternoon, the car still had not been found, McDonald police said.

Neal told McDonald police that he was driving on Joffre Road in Smith Township about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he noticed an inebriated woman stumbling on the road. He turned his car around and picked her up because he was concerned she would be struck by a vehicle.

The woman was having difficulty communicating. Neal told police that her name was “Lori” and she was from Washington but staying with a friend in Pittsburgh’s West End.

Since it was late, Neal did not want to take her to Pittsburgh but told her she could stay on his couch for the night.

Neal said he checked on the woman periodically throughout the night. Neal’s wife said she heard the woman open the basement door and leave the home about 6:30 a.m.

About noon, Neal discovered that his car was no longer in the parking spot. After checking, he found the keys were gone.

Police said the car could be in Pittsburgh’s West End. The license on the car is HYM-3015.
