Man charged with assisting woman’s overdose

1 min read

INDIANA, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man already jailed on charges he interfered with police investigating the suicide of his former girlfriend has now been charged with helping her take her life.

Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty says he filed the new charge — which carries up to 10 years in prison — because more investigation has made it clear that 31-year-old Brandon Lee Crowe knew the woman was attempting suicide when he interfered with a trooper who came with the woman’s daughter to check on her.

Police say the woman, 39-year-old Julie Madeley, of West Wheatfield Township, died after overdosing on medications she was taking for anxiety and depression on March 27.

Crowe’s public defender did not immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.
