Washington County commissioners
• Date: June 6
• Action: The commissioners OK’d a contract with attorney Carl Smith of the law firm Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires and Newby LLP for issues relating to unemployment claims through Dec. 31, 2014. The services of a partner will be $170 per hour; associate attorney, $140 per hour; and paralegal, $80 per hour.
The commissioners approved an agreement with Connect Inc. for the provision of permanent supportive housing services to 12 homeless, mentally disabled individuals, including five veterans and five chronic substance abusers at scattered-site apartments throughout the county at a cost of $86,346. This is a new allocation from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
• District judge leases: A month-to-month lease with the Ellsworth-Somerset Volunteer Fire Department for Curtis Thompson’s office will be $800 a month. The county is signing a five-year lease with North Strabane Township for District Judge Jay Weller for $1,300 a month through July 31, 2014. Successive years will cost county taxpayers an additional $25 a month each year through 2018.
• Vehicle purchases through state contracts: Adult probation department, from Day Ford, Monroeville, a 2013 Ford Interceptor utility vehicle at a cost of $30,801 plus $1,505 for a five-year extended warranty; court administration, 2013 Dodge Caravan costing $20,828 from McCall Motors Inc. of Ebensburg, Cambria County, for use by the juvenile probation/Leader Program, and two 2014 GMC all-wheel-drive passenger vans costing $30,000 each for use by the Community Service/FITS Program.
• Appointments: Dr. Jennifer Ripepi, Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Board; Debbie DeStefano, Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging advisory council.
