Diamond salesman robbed near downtown Pittsburgh high-rise

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh police have been searching for three men in a blue van who robbed a diamond salesman.

Police say the victim was stopped near the Gateway Towers, an upscale, condominium high-rise downtown when the men approached about 10 p.m. Thursday.

Police say at least one of the men had a knife and punctured the salesman’s tires after the men stole a backpack containing an unspecified amount of diamonds that police called “significant” and “considerable.”

Police don’t know if the man was targeted or randomly robbed. Nor have they determined whether the robbers are connected to two other Pittsburgh-area jewel heists earlier this year.

Three armed men stole $1 million in jewels from a salesman outside a jewelry store in Wexford May 10, while a traveling salesman lost $250,000 worth of jewels in Monroeville April 12.
