Man wounded after Pittsburgh area police chase

1 min read

CLAIRTON (AP) – A man has been hospitalized and will faces weapons charges and other crimes after police say he pointed a pistol at officers after driving away from a traffic stop in a Pittsburgh suburb.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 28-year-old Anthony Jefferson, of Clairton.

Allegheny County police say Jefferson was shot by a Clairton officer Thursday afternoon after the short chase.

Police tried to pull over Jefferson for driving with expired registration and inspection stickers. But police say Jefferson drove away and crashed before pulling the gun and aiming it at officers, one of whom shot Jefferson twice in the arm.

The district attorney will review the shooting to determine whether it was justified.

Police say Jefferson surrendered after running into the woods. He was still at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh on Friday.
