Vandal breaks 168-year-old window at church

1 min read

SOMERSET (AP) – State police have been searching for a vandal who threw a large rock through an original stained-glass window at a 19th century church in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Police think the window was broken Saturday at the 168-year-old Christ Casebeer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, near Somerset. That’s about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Pastor Dennis Doebler believes the church’s stained glass is insured for more than $1 million, but doubts the broken window can be replaced or restored to its original condition.

Police say the rock was about the size of a human fist and was thrown through a clear, exterior storm window but also broke through the stained glass window and landed in the sanctuary of the church, which opened in 1845.

The pastor doubts the person who broke the window realizes its value.
