J-M grads receive Kormuth scholarships
Two Jefferson-Morgan High School students received the Kormuth Scholarships at Jefferson-Morgan High School’s annual awards banquet.
The scholarship was established to honor the Cyril and Julia Kormuth family of Clarksville, five members of which graduated from Jefferson High School.
Each year, the fund awards two $2,000 scholarships renewable for four years, and this year’s recipients are Ashley Faddis and Jeremy Baker.
Faddis, daughter of Tim and Melissa Faddis and Scot and Lisa Moore, will attend Penn State University where she will major in science with plans of attending dental school.
Ashley also was the recipient of the $2,000 Greene County Memorial Hospital Scholarship; the $1,000 Jefferson-Morgan PTO Scholarship; the $500 Jefferson Fire Company Scholarship; and a $250 award for second place as a Lions Club Young Amabassador of the 21st Century.
At Jefferson-Morgan, Faddis was the valedictorian and served as captain of volleyball, basketball and track teams. She also participated in softball. She was president of National Honor Society, Student Council, Leo Club, SADD, Youth Traffic Safety Council and Drama Club.
She served as vice president of the Interact Club and was a member of the Varsity Club. Faddis also was a member of the debate team, Academic Team, Science Olympiad and the Envirothon Team.
Baker, son of Jeremy Michele and Joey Baker, will attend Waynesburg University where he plans to study finance.
Baker also received a $4,000 Waynesburg University Honor Scholarship; a $1,000 Renardo A. Matteucci Family scholarship; a $1,000 county of Greene/West Penn Power scholarship; a $1,000 Ross M. DiMarco scholarship from District 14M of the Lions Club; the $1,000 “Big Steve” Memorial Scholarship; and the $250 Clarksville Area Lions Club Academic and Community Service Award.
At Jefferson-Morgan, Baker was on the track team, vice president of student council, yearbook editor and band equipment manager. He was a member of the academic team and chorus.
