Lien placed on Philly mayor’s home over gas bill

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A spokesman says Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is now up to date on his bills after a lien had to be placed on his home last month due to an unpaid gas bill.

A filing in Common Pleas Court shows Philadelphia Gas Works initiated the lien on Nutter’s home because he owed about $500 for past gas bills. A May 18 filing shows the bill was paid and the matter was settled.

Nutter’s spokesman, Mark McDonald, says the mayor’s PGW account is now “current” and that Nutter’s failure to pay previously was a private matter. McDonald says the mayor, a second-term Democrat, tries to stay current on his bills like everyone else.

But City Controller Alan Butkovitz says the mayor needs to lead by example.
