Worker injured in NYC airport demolition

1 min read

NEW YORK (AP) – A construction worker was injured Sunday during demolition of a departures runway at the now-vacant Terminal 3 at Kennedy International Airport.

Steve Coleman, spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, said the worker was struck in the leg by falling debris at about 10 a.m. Sunday. Coleman said the worker did not appear to be seriously injured but was walking with a slight limp afterward.

“Apparently, a piece of the concrete or roadway fell where they didn’t think it was going to fall,” Coleman said.

The terminal, also known as the Worldport, is memorable for its shape, which resembles a flying saucer.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. did not immediately comment.
