Canton woman charged

2 min read

A Canton Township woman was charged Monday by state police with driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the welfare of children stemming from a crash earlier this month.

Nicole Leann Hall, 21, of 49 Imperial Ave., was driving east in the 3300 block of West Chestnut when her sport utility vehicle went off the side of the road about 10:30 a.m. June 1. State police said she overcorrected and the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane, crashed through a guard rail, went over an embankment and hit a tree. Her 4-week-old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle.

Canton firefighters had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free Hall. The infant, who was properly restrained in a safety seat, was removed from the vehicle.

Police could smell a faint odor of an alcoholic beverage on Hall. She admitted to police that she consumed a Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

Hall was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. The baby was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC as a precaution.

The charges, which also included traffic violations of driving under suspension, failure to stay in her lane and careless driving, will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 1 before Mark.
