Waynesburg Borough Police have arrested two men in connection with the theft of copper in Waynesburg. Jason Leroy Fuller, 25, of 380 Willow Bank Road, Holbrook, and Thomas Charles Burroughs Jr. 42, of 240 S. Cumberland St., Waynesburg were arrested June 23.

Patrolman Asa Winters said he stopped the pair when he noticed copper wire and a pair of bolt cutters protruding from Fuller’s backpack. Winters ascertained that Fuller and Boroughs were cutting the wire off of utility poles throughout the borough. Winters said the copper seized came from 10 or more utility poles and weighed approximately 16 pounds.

Both men are charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at night, and ten counts of criminal mischief. Fuller is charged with an additional count of possession of an instrument of crime with intent.

They are being held on $1,000 straight cash bond at the Greene County jail. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for 3 p.m. July 3 before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson.
