WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) – A Virginia woman facing a seven- to nine-year sentence for embezzling $1.3 million from a West Virginia casino is seeking permission to travel across the country to visit her ailing parents before she reports to prison.

Reva resident Anita Ambler will be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Wheeling on July 15 and will likely have 30 days to report for incarceration.

The former bookkeeper was convicted of embezzling from West Virginia’s Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester.

Ambler was found guilty of 11 counts of mail fraud, 10 counts of wire fraud and four counts of transacting in criminal proceeds.

This week, she asked Judge Frederick Stamp to let her visit family on the West Coast between July 17 and 23.

The motion says prosecutors don’t object.
