Police: Bus stop abduction attempt was a hoax

1 min read

WEST MIFFLIN (AP) – Police say a reported attempted abduction of a woman at a Western Pennsylvania transit bus stop near Pittsburgh last week was a hoax.

West Mifflin police said a 22-year-old woman told them a man asked her about the bus schedule Monday, then tried to place a cloth doused in some kind of liquid over her mouth. She said she broke free and ran away.

Chief Kenneth Davies said police reviewed surveillance video and physical evidence and then talked with the woman, who acknowledged Friday “that the attempted abduction never occurred.”

Police said the fluid on her jacket and personal items turned out to be water.

Davies said authorities are “considering criminal charges and/or other mental health options.”
