5 crowned at Miss Greene County Pageant
CARMICHAELS – Five local girls were crowned Miss Greene County in their age divisions during the 23rd annual Miss Greene County Pageant Sunday in the Stanley Ferek III Auditorium of Carmichaels Area High School.
The five queens crowned were: Tiny Miss, Alexis Hooper, 3, of Jefferson; Petite Miss, Annalise Willis, 6, of Mather; Junior Miss, Joelle Pahanish, 10, of Jefferson; Young Miss, Alexis Bamberger, 13, of Wind Ridge; and Teen Miss, Amanda Frampton, 15, of New Freeport. Each of the five queens received a trophy, crown, sash and bouquet, and will receive a $100 prize.
A total of 13 contestants competed in this year’s pageant, which had the theme “These Boots Are Made for Walking.”
The contestant age categories were: Tiny Miss, 2 to 4 years; Petite Miss, 5 to 7 years; Junior Miss, 8 to 11 years; Young Miss, 12 to 14 years; and Teen Miss, 15 to 17 years.
In the Tiny Miss division, Hooper also won the photogenic and formalwear awards. Runner-up Nora Ann Watters, 3, of Carmichaels, won the sportswear award.
In the Petite Miss division, Willis also won the photogenic, sportswear and formalwear awards. Runner-up Addison Palko, 5, of Jefferson, won the talent award.
In the Junior Miss division, Pahanish also won the photogenic, sportswear, talent and formalwear awards. Runner-up was Remmey Lohr, 10, of Carmichaels. Contestant Cameron Bryn Patton, 11, of Waynesburg, won the Director’s Award for raising the most money in advertising sponsorships among all contestants. Patton received a trophy and will receive a $500 prize. Other Junior Miss contestants included Alison Blair, 11, of Waynesburg; Valentina Bruno, 8, of Waynesburg; and Payden Policz, 11, of Waynesburg.
In the Young Miss division, Bamberger won the photogenic, interview, sportswear, talent and formalwear awards.
In the Teen Miss division, Frampton also won the photogenic, interview, talent and formalwear awards. Runner-up Lakelyn Sheldon, 17, of Crucible, won the sportswear award.
Judges for the pageant were Max Jergel, a theater performer and choreographer; Alyssa Simakas, an award-winning tap dancer and choreographer; Jackie Simakas, a fashion and dance consultant; and Adam Tuckey, a classical vocalist and pianist.
Assisting in the awards ceremonies were the 2012 Miss Greene County queens: Tiny Miss Bailey Barnyak of Carmichaels, Petite Miss Alexa Smith of Carmichaels, Junior Miss Macey Whipkey of West Finley, Young Miss Caitlyn Ricco of Carmichaels and Teen Miss Floretta Chambers of Carmichaels. Also assisting were Ashley Avolio, 2012 Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen; Erica Bristor; Mandi Burns, 2012 Jacktown Fair Queen; Kendall Lewis, 2012 Miss Rain Day; and Christa Ziefel, 2012 Greene County Fair Queen.
The 2013 Miss Greene County Pageant was sponsored by CONSOL Energy Inc. and Greene County commissioners, with additional support from Alpha Natural Resources, Community Bank, Direct Results, Energy Corp. of America, Hartman and Hartman, McCracken Pharmacy, state Rep. Pam Snyder and Wal-Mart. The pageant was presented by the Greene County Department of Recreation.
All proceeds from the 2013 Miss Greene County Pageant will benefit Department of Recreation programs, such as Day Camp, which provides free activities for county children every summer.
