Cal U. names interim president

1 min read

CALIFORNIA – The trustees at California University of Pennsylvania recommended Tuesday that acting school President Geraldine Jones be named interim president.

Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi, who is a Cal U. trustee, said the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s board of governors will consider the recommendation at its June meeting.

Maggi said the trustees also recommended that he become chairman of Cal U.’s council of trustees to replace Robert Irey, whom Gov. Tom Corbett refused to reappoint to the position last month for unspecified reasons. The trustees will act on Maggi’s nomination as chairman when the Cal U. board meets in June.

Jones was named acting Cal U. president last year to replace former Cal U. President Angelo Armenti Jr., who was fired for reasons that are not yet clear.

Cal U. spokeswoman Christine Kindl said it was announced at Tuesday’s meeting that room and board costs will be frozen next term at the 2012-13 rates. In other business the trustees improved a 5-year, $70-million capital plan for four projects, the first of which involves $10.3 million in renovations to Coover Hall, the university’s industrial arts building, Kindl said.
