Energy conservation code workshop set for March 21

1 min read

The Department of Environmental Protection is hosting a training workshop on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code for code enforcement officials, builders, contractors and designers next week in Moon Township.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 at the Holiday Inn-Pittsburgh Airport, 8256 University Blvd. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the $40 registration fee.

The IECC is updated every three years by the International Code Council. In Pennsylvania, it is considered part of the Uniform Construction Code, according to Act 49.

The workshop will focus on energy code compliance for commercial building. Participants will learn about the commercial provisions and basic requirements of the IECC, data input into COMcheck software and proper review of COMcheck compliance certificates. Staff from the Pennsylvania House Research Center will lead the course. Attendees will receive six UCC continuing education hours for completing the training.

Funding for the workshop is provided by the state through a U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program grant.
