West Pike chief suspended

The chief and lone member of the West Pike Run Township police department was suspended without pay until further notice by the board of supervisors at their meeting Monday night.

Michael Hardesty of Scenery Hill was recently charged with animal cruelty by the humane officer for the Washington Area Humane Society after his 1 1/2-year-old Rottweiler was reportedly found in deplorable conditions without food or water.

Rick Molish, the chairman of the board of supervisors, said Hardesty was suspended in an unanimous vote. The board also voted to hire Ryan Waggoner as a part-time officer. Molish expects him to start in several weeks.
