Aliquippa man convicted of trying to kill officer

1 min read

BEAVER – A man has been convicted of attempted murder in a shooting that wounded a Western Pennsylvania police officer last year.

The Beaver County Times says jurors in Beaver County also convicted 20-year-old Damontae Williams of Aliquippa on Wednesday of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, robbery and other counts. A judge later convicted him of a firearms crime.

Police said he robbed a Center Township store in July and shot a pursuing Monaca officer in the leg.

Public defender Kevin Kindred argued that Williams had been hit by the officer’s cruiser, feared for his life and fired only to scare the officer, not to try to kill him.

A sentencing date has not been set.
