PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Western Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 28 to 56 years in prison in the shooting of a man authorities said was preparing to testify about an earlier shooting and robbery.

Twenty-four-year-old Duwayne Dixon of Wilkinsburg, who was sentenced Tuesday, was convicted by an Allegheny County jury in January of attempted homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault, intimidation of a witness and retaliation.

Prosecutors said Dixon shot the witness twice in the head as he was clearing snow from a neighbor’s vehicle in February 2008. The victim was shot 10 days before he was scheduled to take the stand against a man charged with having shot the witness and a 3-month-old baby during a May 2007 robbery attempt in Ferguson Park. He eventually recovered and testified.
