Four sue Range over well drilling

1 min read

Four owners of 1,700 acres in Hanover and Jefferson townships filed suit this week in Washington County Court, seeking damages from Range Resources over well drilling they say they haven’t authorized.

Darlene R. McWreath of Washington, Robert C. McBride of Charleston, S.C., Karen Lundin of Milford, Mich., and Deborah L. McWreath of Matthews, N.C., say in the suit that their deed to the land goes back to October 2009.

“On information and belief, Range Resources Corp. has drilled at least one gas well on the surface of this property. Range Resources Corp. does not have any lease or other operating agreement with the plaintiffs granting Range the right to drill a well on the surface of the property for the production of oil and gas,” the suit said.

They named as a defendant Range Resources Corp. of Fort Worth, Texas, and they are seeking more than $50,000 in damages.

Matt Pitzarella, spokesman for Range, did not respond to a request for comment emailed Monday.
