Man robs Ambridge church during pierogi sale

1 min read

AMBRIDGE (AP) – Police say a man stole money from a western Pennsylvania church that was holding a pierogi sale.

Authorities say the unidentified man on Friday pushed an 80-year-old woman to get the money after he ordered three dozen pierogies at the St. Peter and Paul Church in Ambridge, about 18 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Police say a woman in a getaway truck was waiting for him down the street.

It’s the second pierogi-related theft in western Pennsylvania this year. Pierogies are traditional eastern European food similar to a dumpling.

In February, a man robbed a church pierogi sale in Lyndora, which is about 30 miles northeast of Ambridge.
