Easter egg hunt and skate held at park
GREENSBORO – The Easter bunny greeted more than 200 children and adults who turned out for the Greene County Department of Recreation’s Easter egg hunt and skate, held Saturday, March 16, at Mon View Park in Greensboro.
The day’s festivities kicked off at 1 p.m. with an Easter basket decorating contest. Prizes were awarded for winners in five age categories.
The Easter basket decorating contest winners were:
• Ages 1 to 3: First place, Luci Bowers, 3, of Uniontown; second place, Kayne Drew, 2, of Carmichaels; and third place, Kelsey Vessels, 3, of Clarksville.
• Ages 4 to 5: First place, Skyler Pike, 4, of Masontown; second place, Austin Buchanan, 4, of Dilliner; and third place, Madelynn McDonald, 5, of Greensboro.
• Ages 6 to 7: First place, Kaylin Kelly, 7, of Cokeburg; second place, Addie Boardley, 7, of Greensboro; and third place, Patience Eddy, 7, of Carmichaels.
• Ages 8 to 11: First place, Jaden Revak, 8, of Masontown; second place, Asia Revak, 10, of Masontown; and third place, Autumn Snatchko, 8, of Jefferson and Nicholas Campbell, 9, of Carmichaels.
• Ages 12 to 15: First place, Ashlin Hawkinberry, 12, of Greensboro, and second place, Kylei Grim, 12, of Carmichaels.
First-place winners received a $10 Walmart gift card, and all winners received single-admission pool passes to Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg.
During the contest, magician R. Chad Davis of Fairmont, W.Va., who performs as “Chad the Amazing Magician,” performed for the attendees. Davis has been performing professionally for 20 years and has become one of the region’s top family entertainers.
At 1:30 p.m., children hunted for 2,000 eggs hidden throughout the park. This year, a special prize was given to the child who found a “Recreation” coin that had been hidden in one of the eggs. The winner, Jaime Chambers, 7, of Crucible, received a Vivitar digital camcorder. An Easter skate was then held from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Easter events were sponsored by Milliken & Throckmorton Funeral Home, the Greene County Commissioners and the Department of Recreation. Several 2013 Miss Greene County Queens – including Petite Miss Annalise Willis and Tiny Miss Alexis Hooper – assisted with the event.
Spring skating hours at Mon View are 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Regular admission is $5 for all skaters, whether renting skates or bringing their own, and $5 for non-skaters.
The Department of Recreation will host several more “Skate & Dance” events on Fridays throughout the rest of the spring season at Mon View. The dates are March 29, April 12 and 26 and May 3. The skate will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and the dance will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is $8.
Mon View is available to rent for private parties at a rate of $120 for two hours. The price covers admission and skate rental for 20 people. A fee of $3 per additional person will be charged.
