Court approves police officer for Ringgold

1 min read

Washington County Judge Gary Gilman approved a request from Ringgold School District to hire a retired state trooper to head its armed security department.

The contract with Clayton R. Shell, 44, of Venetia, calls for him to be paid $42,000 a year through June 30, 2016. The pact does not include employee benefits, Ringgold Superintendent Karen Polkabla said.

Shell, who retired in July 2011, holds all required certifications and as a 1996 graduate of the state police academy, exceeds the requirements for municipal police officers, Solicitor Tim Berggren wrote in a petition to the court.
