Man arrested in city store robbery
A 23-year-old Apollo man was arrested Sunday for allegedly robbing a Washington convenience store in January.
Clark M. Headrick Jr., 23, of 1106 Route 56 East, was charged with robbery by Washington police. He was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins and placed in the county jail on $35,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaint, Headrick entered the Mega Express at 326 Ridge Ave., Washington, and asked the cashier for change.
The cashier said she couldn’t make change unless he was buying something. Police said Headrick then milled around the store, picked up a lollipop and returned to the cashier, who started the sale.
When the drawer of the cash register opened, Headrick allegedly jumped at the cashier, pushing her back with his left hand while producing a knife with his right hand.
Headrick grabbed cash from the drawer and fled, police said.
Headrick was arrested Feb. 4 in connection with another attempted robbery. Police eventually concluded he matched the suspect shown on surveillance footage from the Mega Express robbery. The cashier then identified Headrick in a photo line-up, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 4 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
