1 min read

The homeless man accused of robbing a Chinese restaurant minutes after he allegedly stole a candy bar from a drugstore earlier this month waived his case to court Wednesday.

Rodney Gazzam, 24, is accused of trying to rob How Lee restaurant, 120 W. Chestnut St., March 6. Restaurant employees were able to subdue him until police arrived after he allegedly grabbed money from the cash register.

On Wednesday, city police added charges of receiving stolen property, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of resisting arrest was withdrawn.

Earlier on the day of the How Lee robbery, Gazzam allegedly stole two cellphones from a South Main Street resale shop.

Gazzam’s bond on the robbery was reduced to $10,000. Bond on the retail theft charge in connection with the theft of the phones remains at $5,000.
