Commissioners issue proclamations

2 min read

WAYNESBURG – The Greene County commissioners Thursday proclaimed the week of May 6-12 as National Nurses Week.

The proclamation recognizes the nurses of Greene County who provide quality care especially as the demand for nurses increases due to the aging population, advances in life-sustaining technology and equipment and the growth of home health care services.

This year’s theme is “A Leading Force for Change” as registered nurses work to provide safe and high-quality patient care and map out ways to improve the nation’s health care system.

The commissioners also proclaimed May 12-18 as National Hospital Week and May 19-25 as Emergency Medical Services week.

National Hospital Week recognizes the people, facilities and technologies that make trustworthy, reliable health care possible at Southwest Regional Medical Center. This year’s theme is “A Guiding Light for Changing Times.”

Emergency Medical Services Week acknowledges the members of emergency medical services teams who are prepared at all times to provide lifesaving care. Those professionals and volunteers also engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills. This year’s theme is “EMS: One Mission, One Team.”

The commissioner also passed a resolution requesting a Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant for $250,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to make renovations to the swimming pool at Mon View Park in Greensboro.

It was reported that the pool will be open this summer, but will be closed next year as a new pool will be built.

In other business, the commissioners:

• Appointed Alan Vozel to a three-year term on the Greene County Library board of directors.

• Approved an application for state Victim/Witness Services Funds in the amount of $47,284.
