Absentee ballot deadline approaches

2 min read

Washington County residents who need an absentee ballot for the upcoming May 21 primary election must apply by May 14.

Absentee ballots are available to registered voters who will be absent from their municipality May 21 or those who cannot reach the polls because of an illness or physical disability.

Absentee-ballot applications are not mailed automatically because a voter has requested one for a previous election unless a voter has a permanent disability notification on file. The notification is valid for four years.

Absentee ballot applications may be requested through the mail or in person at the Washington County Elections Office, Courthouse Square Office Building, 100 West Beau St., Washington, PA 15301. Eligible voters also may obtain an application by visiting www.votespa.com or calling 724-228-6750.

Registered voters are encouraged to request their absentee ballot applications as soon as possible. Applications must be completed and returned to the elections office no later than 4:30 p.m. May 14.

Those voting by absentee ballot will be required to provide a Pennsylvania Driver’s License number, PennDOT-issued nondriver photo ID number, last four digits of their Social Security number or a photocopy of an acceptable photo ID when applying. An absentee ballot will be mailed to the applicant.

The completed absentee ballot must be returned to the elections office no later than 5 p.m. May 17.

For fastest results, registered voters may visit the elections office and complete an application in person. If properly registered, voters will be handed an absentee ballot to vote on the spot, which takes only a few minutes.
