Eva Chatterjee-Sutton, former dean of students at Bennington (Vt.) College with 20 years of experience in student affairs, has been named vice president and dean of student life at Washington & Jefferson College.

As a member of senior staff at Bennington College, Chatterjee-Sutton oversaw all aspects of student life, including residential life, student conduct and governance, campus activities and recreation, advising, and mentoring. Prior to joining the staff there in 1997 as associate director of student life, she served three years as coordinator for education and leadership at University of Maryland Baltimore County.

“I am so excited to be joining such a wonderful institution so focused on student engagement and development,” Chatterjee-Sutton said. “I have a deep commitment to collaboratively creating supporting programs and structures that provide opportunities for all students to challenge and expand their sense of self and their place in the world. For this reason, I am drawn to liberal arts environments that support that exploration and evolution of students, both academically and personally.”

Chatterjee-Sutton will be a member of W&J President Tori Haring-Smith’s senior staff, reporting directly to the president and leading the student life division, which includes athletics, career services, counseling services, Greek life, health services, multicultural affairs, protection services, residence life, student activities, student transitions programs, and volunteer services. Chatterjee-Sutton begins her new assignment July 1.

She has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in college student development from the University of Iowa.
