W.Va. parents charged with giving toddler methadone

1 min read

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) – A Belington woman who allegedly gave a toddler illegally purchased methadone to make her sleep is now charged in the girl’s death, and so is the father who authorities say did nothing about it.

The Exponent Telegram says 31-year-old Ida Lee Evans and 38-year-old David Lee Delauder were in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $100,000 bond each.

Both are charged with death of a child by a parent.

Police say the 23-month-old girl died March 12.

State Police say Evans administered the methadone the night before, and Delauder made no attempt to call 911 or have the child checked out when he learned of the ingestion.

Police say the couple bought the drug on the street.
