Grange announces summer activities

2 min read

East Franklin Grange’s summer activities will kick off Saturday with a chicken roast beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting until the chicken is gone. Big Jim’s chicken will be prepared by Jim Hopkins on an outdoor spit, and meals may be eaten at the grange or purchased for carry-out. Chicken connoisseurs may purchase a whole chicken with baked beans, cole slaw and a roll for $12; a half chicken with the fixin’s for $7; a whole chicken for $10; or a half chicken for $5.

“We need a new roof,” said grange president Bonnie Smouse, “and I hope this fundraiser will help us start saving some money to get that roof.”

On Wednesday, the grange will host WVU professor Dr. Randall Wiesenmeyer, who will speak on the topic of global warming at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public and is free of charge.

In June, the grange will sponsor a trip to the Ohio Amish country. This activity will also be open to the public. Costs and additional information will be available prior to the end of May. Also in June, the grange will sponsor a picnic and swim party for grange youth.

On Sept. 27, the grange will sponsor a trip to the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh for the Broadway touring show, “The Lion King.” Tentatively, cost for transportation and the show ticket will be $70. This trip, too, will be open to the public.

For additional information on any of these activities or other grange activities, interested individuals may contact East Franklin secretary Martha Williams at 724-627-3498.
