Police beat May 11
Two arrested: Miranda Kay Snyder, 24, and Michael A. Dean, 25, both of 104 North St., Canonsburg, were arrested Thursday night by borough police after they allegedly assaulted each other at their home. They were arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, simple assault and harassment. They were each placed in the Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Two injured: Carol Welsh, 53, of 160 First Ave., New Eagle, and Lois DiBartolomeo, 58, of 122 Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Belle Vernon, were injured when their vehicles collided about 5:45 a.m. Friday on Route 88 near Alexander Street. Carroll police said Welsh was going south when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with DiBartolomeo’s vehicle. Welsh was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was listed in serious condition Friday afternoon. DiBartolomeo was treated at Monongahela Valley Hospital and released. Assisting at the scene were Monongahela and Donora police, Carroll firefighters and Tri-Community Ambulance. Police said the road was closed in the area for 45 minutes. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
Interstate closed: Joseph Lubovinsky, 47, of Connellsville, was injured Thursday morning when his truck wrecked into a state Department of Transportation crash truck and dumped its load of 16-ounce bottles of Mountain Dew on Interstate 70 west, just east of the West Alexander exit, Donegal. State police said the crash truck was in the right lane as crews set up signs for road work when Lubovinsky’s truck struck the rear of it. The highway was closed for 2 1/2 hours, causing traffic tie-ups in the area.
Disorderly, harassment charges: Scott Boyer, 30, of Ellsworth, will be charged by state police with disorderly conduct and harassment stemming from a disturbance with a woman not identified by police Thursday on Maple Street in Ellsworth.
Driver charged: Chaz A. Simmons, 23, of Spencer, W.Va., was charged by North Franklin police with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive at a safe speed and driving without headlights stemming from a traffic stop early Thursday. Police were monitoring traffic in the 1200 block of West Chestnut Street when they saw a pickup truck traveling at a high speed with no headlights. Police said they caught up with the vehicle near McCarrell Avenue and attempted to stop it, and Simmons pulled over a few blocks away. Police said his blood-alcohol content was almost double the 0.08 percent limit presumed for intoxication. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Student charged: A 16-year-old North Strabane boy will be charged in a juvenile allegation with possession of weapons on school property after he allegedly had three knives in his vehicle at Canon-McMillan High School Thursday, North Strabane police said.
Wallet stolen: Trenna Wheeler of Waynesburg Road, Washington, told South Strabane police Thursday her wallet was stolen from her purse while she was at Giant Eagle, Strabane Square. The wallet contained credit cards, debit card, checkbook and driver’s license.
Fraudulent card use: Lorraine Ellis of 1055 Allison Ave. told Washington police Thursday her bank card was used to make a fraudulent online purchase.
