Area man accused of assault on police

2 min read

A Charleroi man wanted on a warrant in connection with an incident earlier this month was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly tried to run from Charleroi Regional police as they attempted to take him into custody.

Edwin Younkin, 47, of 711 Washington Ave., was seen by police as he walked into his home about 4:30 p.m. He reportedly ran to the front of the house as police tried to take him into custody.

Younkin reportedly struggled with officers as they tried to take him into custody, kicking one even when he was in handcuffs.

Two bags of suspected marijuana were found in the house. Police also found a glass container he tossed outside the house containing suspected heroin.

Younkin was initially charged in connection with a May 7 incident at a neighbor’s home. When police attempted to take a woman involved into custody on drug and other charges, Younkin reportedly started screaming at police. He was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness in connection with that incident.

Younkin was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on the new charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct and possession of drugs and paraphernalia. He was also arraigned before Redlinger on the initial charges. Younkin was placed in the Washington County jail on $20,000 bond.
