Click-it or Ticket campaign begins

2 min read

Wallet? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Keys? Check. Mirrors adjusted? Check. And last but not least, seatbelt? Check.

The Pennsylvania State Police in Waynesburg will be participating in the Click-It or Ticket campaign beginning Monday and continuing through June 2.

Through the campaign, law enforcement will be taking additional steps to ensure public safety on the highways by focusing thoroughly on the wearing of seat belts.

They plan on doing this through enforcement and education.

Additional troopers patrolling the highways using aggressive enforcement of occupant restraint and child safety seat belt violations will be some enforcement efforts made by state police.

Part of the education process will be to get the statistics out there.

According to Click-it or Ticket’s campaign website: if all passenger vehicle occupants age 5 and older had worn seat belts an additional 3,341 lives could have been saved in 2010. That is more than twice the lives lost on the RMS Titanic. Of all passenger vehicle occupants ejected from their vehicles 77 percent suffered fatal injuries and 62 percent of 18 to 34-year-old passenger vehicle occupants killed in rural crashes at night were unbuckled.

Other crash-causing violations such as driving under the influence, speeding and aggressive driving will be part of the enforcement and educational efforts.

The Click-it or Ticket campaign is a national event that is practiced in the later days of May into June all over the United States.

To start the campaign off, the state police will be conducting a free child restraint check-up event Monday at the Carmichaels Borough/Cumberland Twp. Volunteer Fire Department. The event will allow parents to bring their child restraints and have them thoroughly examined by certified child restraint technicians for recalls and also to learn how to properly secure child seats.

The event is free and open to anyone.
