Police beat May 19
Yard tools stolen: Jeremy Spinneweber of 1084 S. Hewitt Ave. told police that someone stole two weed trimmers, one leaf blower and one hedge trimmer from the back of his truck between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Checkpoint conducted: State police and Cumberland Township Police Department on Thursday conducted a sobriety checkpoint along Greene Street that resulted in three DUI arrests, one drug arrest, one arrest for a firearms violation, 24 traffic citations and 17 written warnings, police said.
Fuel stolen: Someone removed 75 gallons of diesel fuel and a citizens band radio from a bulldozer at a gas well site operated by Chevron North America on Waterdam Road, police said. The theft happened between 2 p.m. Thursday and 8:45 a.m. Friday.
Theft at treatment plant: Someone stole two variable frequency drives at the Franklin Township Wastewater Treatment Plant at 278 Jefferson Road after cutting the power to them Friday morning, and then stole an unused one that was on a shelf, police said. The drives are designed to control the pumps, which regulate the water level at the plant. The suspect also stole a generator, a pressure washer and a large amount of fishing equipment from a boat belonging to Kevin Allen Eddy of Waynesburg, which was parked at the site.
